Here in BC there are a number of insurance brackets (based on displacement) which determine the base rate. All bikes in any one bracket pay the same, so a 600cc sportbike is cheaper than a 883 Sportster (these are only for liability, theft and collision are based more on $$ value). In general, is it the same in NB? Would I save money by going to a smaller bike (I currently ride a 1127cc Suzuki GSX1100G), assuming the actual $$ value of the bike was about the same? A couple of months ago we bought a van with the intention of replacing the Audi with the van. But the van needed some work doing on it, so we took out a second insurance on the van with the Co-op, so we could still drive the Audi. At the time, I was disappointed to be told that we could not have a No Claims Bonus on the van, as they said it could only be applied to one policy at a time. But they gave the clear impression that when we cancel the Audi insurance, we could then transfer the NCB to the van. The Audi has now broken down, so we want to cancel its insurance. However, yesterday when I called them, they now said they cannot transfer the NCB to the van as it would be being transferred 'mid-season' to a different car policy. They said they could only have applied it to the van if we had changed the original Audi's policy to cover the van, instead of taking out a different insurance policy for the van. This seems ridiculous. Surely, we are entitled to our NCB?! Why should it matter that it is mid-season or not? I explained that if I cancelled our insurances with them and went to another company, I would be given a NCB on the van so why won't they give it to me. They agreed! I really don't want to change, as I don't trust other companies and the Co-op seem more ethical than others. But this seems so stupid. To get round this silly rule without changing company, I'm thinking of cancelling the van insurance and changing the Audi insurance to the van, ie. do what they said I should have done in the beginning. What do you think?! (Also, is it ok to keep the Audi uninsured, given that it cannot be driven, but is parked on a public road?)

Car insurance advice?

I cancelled my car insurance with liberty mutual about a year and a half ago. I owed them about $700 which I payed off a few weeks ago. I was looking to insure with them again until they told me my down payment would be the whole years worth of payments which is almost $4000, due to previous cancellation and nonpayment. Then they told me the best they could do would be half of the years total. My question is, if I go to other companies are they all going to tell me the same thing for down payments on policies? I do not owe any money to any company at this time.

Under 1000 car, low insurance group, fuel effieient, help?

I'm looking to get myself a car for one year as soon as i pass my test so i can get a no claims bonus. what car would be best to buy (used) what year (reliable or not too difficult to keep maintained by me alone.) It needs to have a low monthly running cost and be almost guaranteed to survive without major (>150) parts replacement over the year. and it needs to be in a low insurance group.

Insurance write off question?

My car has recently been declared an insurance write off, basically a young guy (17) pulled out of a side road T-Bone ing me, causing me to be pushed into a tree, all the under body of my car was twisted and it would cost more to repair than the car is worth. The problem is my car isn't worth anything ( Peugeot 206). Someone is going to phone me tomorrow to discuss a settlement figure, I'd like 2k, (I paid 4k) 2.5 years ago for it. How much am I likely to get as an insurance write off, bearing in mind the other driver had admitted full liability and blame. It was a 2005 Peugeot 206 with 70k miles, one previous owner with a recent mot ( 2 weeks ago) also I've just paid for 12 months tax ( last month) can I reclaim this somehow? I spoke to the police office who attended the scene and he went to his house yesterday to interview him, apparently he can do him for dangerous driving and give him points, as he was 17 I bet he will get caned on his insurance renewal, which is some comfort I guess :)
